Suzanne Nugent Zimmer, of Roswell, GA passed away on February 5, 2018 surrounded by family following a series of medical issues complicated by her quadriplegia sustained in May 1984 in a diving accident at the Chattahoochee River at age 17. She led a remarkable life through her strong will to succeed and ability to focus on other people's problems and achievements rather than her own. After rehabilitation at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Suzanne completed her college degree in Marketing at Clemson University and was employed for several years at Bell South. In 1992 she met Chris Zimmer, newly transferred from Wisconsin to Atlanta, who shared her interest in football that led to marriage a year later. When the possibility of having children seemed unlikely, they traveled to Russia to adopt their daughter Natalie. Three years later she miraculously delivered her own baby Amanda. As a new mother, she was assisted by her parents Dan and Carolyn Nugent who also enabled her to learn how to drive a specially equipped van and to become a very independent "Lacrosse Mom". Suzanne and Chris shared a love of their second home at Surfside Resort in Miramar Beach, FL. She took great pride and care in providing beach vacations to disabled persons. They shared a love for music that was enhanced by attending concerts and taking music cruises where they met their favorite bands, musicians, and other fans that expanded their many friendships throughout the USA and other countries. Her positive spirit and warm personality endeared her to all who knew her. She was also an inspiration to many people that never met her through the example she set for making the best of her severe physical disabilities to live a "normal" life for 33 years. Suzanne Zimmer was born on November 5, 1966 in Schenectady, NY and is survived by her husband Christopher J. Zimmer, daughters Natalie and Amanda Zimmer, her parents Daniel & Carolyn Nugent of Suwanee, GA, and sister Laura N. Brown of Buford, GA. Visitation will be held at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors on Thursday, February 8, 2018 between the hours of 4:30pm - 7:30pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC)
