I was so sad to hear about Alan. He was a fine person & I was glad to know him, even for such a brief time. His dad was Minister of Music at the Baptist church that was built next door to Redan High.
Through Stephanie's info that she posted, I was able to find and write to Alan's sister, Sherra Parish Knowles. Here's part of her reply:
"Hi Rhonda. Thank you for your kind words. Alan is still missed very much. Some info about Alan: After HS, Alan went to Georgia Tech to study Chemical Engineering (he was always the smart one in the family). He traveled in Europe for a while and changed his mind about a major and finished his college studies at Georgia State in Textile Design. I think all of this is fairly accurate - so many years go...
After college, Alan went to work here in Atlanta. I think I remember it was an attorney's office. In the early 90's, he moved to an area outside of Philadelphia and worked in the city for an law firm. He created the charts, graphs, slides, boards, etc. that the attorneys used in court and during consults. They were a very large firm and handled big cases that lasted multiple years.
Alan became sick in the mid 90's, died at home on March 8, 1996, and is buried outside Philadelphia."
